Miss Jenna- Owner

I am the owner of Instinct Dance Company and cannot wait to make you a part of our pack! I am 28 years old and have been very fortunate with all of the blessings that have come my way. I have been dancing for 19 years and teaching for over a decade now. My background in dance ranges from different locations and opportunities that have formed the diverse knowledge I have today, including drill team as well as studio teaching and styles.

I have had the honor of taking classes from Dee Caspary, Comfort Fedoke and Jaja Vankova from So You Think You Can Dance as well as Missy Lay Zimmer and Andrew Hubbard from the Broadway musical, CATS. Styles I have taught are contemporary, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, modern, pom, and musical theater. Earning 16 medals and multiple trophies/awards over the course of my competitive years has taught me dedication, leadership, and discipline. I look forward to expanding Instinct and take pride in the opportunities we provide for our current dancers.

As well as these achievements, I am also a Cosmetologist and Veterinary Technician. My heart has always come back to what makes me feel most alive- which is dancing. Here at Instinct, I am dedicated to creating a sanctuary that feels like a second home. My purpose, not only as the owner, but as a leader myself is to encourage others to discover their own personal love for this art form. All of the leaders here are extremely well trained and we cannot wait to extend our pack!

I started dancing at the age of 3 in my mom’s desperate attempts to keep me from being too much of a tomboy. In my 16 years of dance, I have been trained in ballet, lyrical, contemporary, jazz and my favorite, hip hop. On top of that, I was also a 2-sports athlete outside of dance all throughout high school, where I lettered in volleyball and softball.

I have been lucky enough to take class from some of the world’s most famous choreographers including Ysabelle Capitule, Luam Keflezgy and Nick Demoura. Some of my achievements include Miss Nexstar 2018 & 2019, Miss Power of Dance 2019, and 3rd place in the World Dance Championship 2019 in NYC. I have taught all styles and I’m excited to be able to further my teaching career here at Instinct Dance Co.

I am now 19 years old and I’m currently studying Behavioral Neuroscience at WSU in hopes of becoming a child psychologist one day. Additionally, I am a softball coach at Northmont Middle School and actively serve my church, Christian Life Center where I am the worship dance leader. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an amazing studio and family. I have a passion for dance; however I have an even greater passion for sharing my knowledge and love with my students as well. My goal as a leader is not to only help grow my students in their skill set, but to encourage them to grow into who they are as a person. After all…dance is so much more than just a sport.

I started my dance career at the age of 7 years old. The first dance class I ever took was an Irish dance class! I fell in love with the sport and I would travel all over the US for different competitions. When I was about 14, I qualified for the highest level (Championship). I learned so much from my time doing Irish dance but wanted to expand my dance culture so when I turned 15, I decided to try out a different style of dance and joined my school’s dance team. I competed on that team throughout my 8th grade year and the first half of my freshman year of high school. The opportunity arose to join a hip-hop studio and compete on their hip hop crew.

I have gotten the chance to learn from many awesome instructors such as Kevin Maher, Jaja Vankova, Comfort, Nappy Tabs and many more. I also took a class from Don McCarron, who was part of Lord of the Dance! I have had the opportunity to teach a wide variety of ages and styles as well as learning the basics that got me to where I am now; turns, leaps, contemporary training and jazz/pom training. I don’t think I have a favorite style but my top 3 would be contemporary, jazz and hip hop. I love the freedom that dance gives you and the creativity you can put into it!

In addition to my dance background, I am a wife to Alexander Grimes and a dog mom to 2 amazing pups! I am an Assistant Manager at Wright Patt Credit Union and have been working there for 6 years. I have worked at various locations and have done multiple jobs throughout my time there. I graduated from Beavercreek High School in 2015 and was an active member of student council for me entire high school career. I am so excited to start this new journey with all of the leaders at Instinct and I cannot wait to see my growth as a leader as well as growth of the studio!

I began my classical training in Dayton, Ohio. I attended Carrol High School while dancing in Gem City Ballet under Barbara Pontecorvo. I also studied on scholarships at Ballet Chicago, Louisville Ballet, Sarasota Ballet and Ballet Met with numerous influential instructors, choreographers, and dancers. After completing my secondary education, I moved to Illinois to join Ballet Chicago under noted director Daniel Duell. In the company, I studied Balanchine’s technique and danced roles in Square Dance, Serenade and the Nutcracker as well as many other works before branching out to dance with Fort Wayne Ballet.

As a professional in Indiana, I danced lead roles as well as corps de ballet with the company before moving to Wisconsin the following year to work as a freelance, guest performer in and around Milwaukee. The experience had me aiding in the growth of younger dancers as well as hectic, magnificent time on stage!

Today, I enjoy teaching multiple levels of classical ballet, pointe, character, jazz. I love a good book, working within healthcare, continuing my studies and my cats, Kitty Kitty Bang Bang and CiCi. Two of my favorite performance roles are Waltz Girl from George Balanchine’s Serenade and Jon Rodriguez’ Ole! I am excited to be with Instinct Dance Company as part of this dynamic group. Let’s Dance!
